Research Topic: Prostate Cancer
Study Title: ESCAPE – Evaluation of Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography in Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer
Research Team:
Matthew Cooperberg, MD, PhD, Principal Investigator (PI)
Kiana Washington, Clinical Research Coordinator
Karina Acevedo, Clinical Research Coordinator
Sponsor: Lantheus Medical Imaging
Study Overview
- The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether a specialized imaging technique (PSMA PET/CT) can accurately detect prostate cancer in patients undergoing active surveillance.
- Researchers aim to determine if this imaging method can safely identify the presence or absence of cancer without relying solely on traditional monitoring methods.
- Findings from this study may help improve how prostate cancer is monitored over time.
Who can join?
What to Expect During the Study
Participants will undergo imaging scans (MRI and PET/CT), receive an intravenous injection of a study imaging agent (PYLARIFY), provide blood samples, complete biopsies as part of clinical care, and fill out quality-of-life questionnaires.
In person only
UCSF Mission Bay campus
UCSF China Basin
- Participation helps researchers improve how prostate cancer is monitored, potentially reducing the need for more invasive procedures in the future.
- Participation helps advance research to improve clinical guidelines and outcomes for future patients.
FAQ's
Up to 24 months (2 years), with multiple study visits over time. Study procedures are conducted in person at UCSF, there will be 2 clinic visits at 3 time points.
Patients will follow standard-of-care active surveillance protocols, including PSA, MRI, biopsy, and quality of life questionnaires at baseline, 12, and 24 months and PSA tests at 6 and 18 months. In addition, PSMA PET CT (Pylarify) will be performed at baseline, 12, and 24 months to determine how well PSMA PET can identify early tumors in the prostate.
