Peter Carroll, MD, MPH received his undergraduate training at the
University of California, Berkeley. He attended Georgetown University
School of Medicine. He graduated with honors and received the
Cahill Award for his performance in surgery and the Kober Award
for the highest record of achievement in the graduating class.
He received his general surgery training at UCSF, also completing
his urology residency at that institution. He completed a fellowship
in Urologic Oncology at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
before returning to join the faculty in the Department of Urology
at UCSF.
Carroll organized the multidisciplinary Urologic Oncology Service,
which he currently directs with Eric Small, MD a medical oncologist.
In 1996, Carroll assumed chairmanship of the UCSF Department of
Urology, recently ranked as one of the very best urology departments
in the country by US News and World Report. He has authored or
coauthored over 325 publications and is principal or co-investigator
of several research grants, including the UCSF Prostate Cancer
SPORE funded by the National Institutes of Health. He is an active
member of numerous professional medical societies, including the
American Urological Association, the American College of Surgeons,
the Western Urologic Forum, and the American Association for Cancer
Research. His major professional interests are the study and management
of urologic cancers, innovative methods of urinary tract reconstruction,
and the impact of cancer detection and treatment on quality of
life.
