James F. Smith, MD, MS
Research Interests
James Smith, MD, MS conducts research concerning male reproductive
health (infertility), erectile dysfuction and Peyronie's disease.
His infertility research focuses on the relationship between
lifestyle (e.g. obesity, tobacco use, and psychological stress),
clinical characteristics (e.g. age, laboratory findings), and
the outcomes of fertility treatment. He is also working to understand
the role that socioeconomic disparities play in accessing fertility
care. Collaborating with other clinicians and researchers in
the Center
for Reproductive Health, he is exploring the clinical factors
associated with successful fertility teatment outcomes. Smith
is exploring the effect of clinical and sociodemographic characteristics
on the risk for developing erectile dysfunction. Working closely
with Tom
Lue, MD, Smith is both exploring penile ultrasound as
a diagnostic therapy to treat men with penile abnormalities,
and studying the effects of new medical and non-surgical
treatments for Peyronie’s disease.
