Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer: International Conference Summary for Patients and Support Group Leaders
Prostate cancer is the most common form of non skin cancer in men in the United States, and a leading cause of cancer mortality, accounting for more than 29,000 deaths in 2005. However, the natural history of this disease is remarkably variable and some men may be very good candidates for a program of active surveillance (“watchful waiting”) rather than immediate treatment.

These presentation, especially for patients, will summarize information on which men with early stage prostate cancer might be the best candidates for this approach and outcomes to date. This audio recording includes information on the best candidates for Active Surveillance & Outcomes, Psychological and Social Considerations, The Prostate Cancer and the Role of Diet and a question and answer period

Audio contributers: Peter Carroll, MD, MPH, Sara Knight, PhD, Sarah O'Brien, MS, RD, and Stan Rosenfeld

An audio tape of this event held on February 27, 2007 at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Zion is available. Click here to listen to this recording on-line PCaActiveSurveillance_22707.MP3

The audio file is 86.7MB, 1:34:40 in length. Clicking on this link will open a new web browser window.
