A new Visiting Professor program will be named in honor of Emil A. Tanagho, MD, Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Urology.
Dr. Tanagho was the second urology chair at UCSF renowned for his transformation of the department from a small, one physician service, to a multi-faceted approach to care that included basic science and clinical expertise. His vision led to the development of sub-specialties in specific areas including female urology; oncology; trauma and reconstruction; endourology and stones; and male reproductive health.
Dr. Tanagho has inspired a generation of urologists not only at UCSF and around the country, but also around the world.
This will be a second Visiting Professorship offered by the department. The first is named after John Walter Schulte, a Vice Chair during the 1960s and outstanding teacher who helped broaden the resident training program.
Says Dr. Peter Carroll, MD, MPH, Professor and current Chair of the Department of Urology, “It gives us great pleasure to bestow this honor to Emil Tanagho which will carry on the tradition of innovation, surgical excellence and forward, honest thinking.”
