About Our Pediatric Urology Research Programs
Pediatric urologists at UCSF are working hard to expand our understanding of urological diseases of childhood. Our faculty's interests range from animal studies of fetal genital development to large-scale epidemiological reviews of urinary tract infections in children. Our program is committed to rapidly translating research findings into improved care for young patients.
Our clinicians and investigators work collaboratively to glean insights into the fundamental biological processes underlying pediatric urological diseases. We then rapidly translate those findings into new ideas for prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
The mission of the Baskin laboratory is to investigate the causes of congenital and acquired pediatric urologic diseases. By understanding etiology we hope to advance prospects for cure/prevention. The main focus of the laboratory is to understand hypospadias.
Our research group studies testicular development in the setting of congenital abnormalities such as undescended testes and gonadal dysgenesis. We are also interested in investigating options for fertility preservation for pre-pubertal boys who are unable to produce a semen sample.
