UCSF Urology faculty member, Tom Chi, MD, Assistant Professor, along with Resident, Samuel Washington, III, MD won essay awards reviewed for the 2016 annual meeting of The Western Section of the American Urological Association, Inc. (WSAUA).
Dr. Chi won first place in the Joseph F. McCarthy Physician Essay Contest for his paper on “Feasibility of Antegrade Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound Nephrostograms.”
Dr. Washington was the third place winner of the Miley B. Wesson Resident Essay Contest for this paper on “Incidence of Prostate Cancer within Skeletal Muscle at the Prostate Apex in Men Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy.”
The papers were judged on originality, importance of material and editorial clarity. Western region residents and fellows, along with urologists who have been out of training 10 years or less are eligible for the competition. The awards were mentioned in advance of the 92nd annual meeting of the 2016 WSAUA held in Kauai.
The WSAUA is one of eight other sections that together make up the national American Urological Association. The Section covers most of the Western U.S. including Alaska, Hawaii, and Pacific Island Possessions of the U.S as well as the northwest Canadian provinces.
