“Dr. Zagoria has worked closely with Urology since his arrival,” says Peter Carroll, MD, MPH, Chair, Department of Urology. “This appointment will formalize and acknowledge this important relationship.”
Dr. Zagoria earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. In 1987, he completed a four-year Diagnostic Radiology residency, as well as a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Radiology from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was Vice-Chair and Head of the Abdominal Radiology Section (2000-2011), and chaired as an interim in the Department of Radiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from 2011-2012. In June 2013, Dr. Zagoria accepted the position of Professor in Residence and Chief of Abdominal Imaging at UCSF. And, in December 2013, was named Vice-chair of Clinical Affairs.
Dr. Zagoria explained the appointment further, “Radiology and Urology are closely intertwined for disease diagnosis and patient management decisions. Our collaborative work will continue to advance patient care here and throughout the world. My research in diagnosis and in image-guided treatment of kidney tumors and in imaging for prostate cancer detection will be substantially enhanced by this faculty appointment and the increased multidisciplinary interactions it entails.”
He adds, “I enthusiastically look forward to having more interaction with the exceptionally talented group of Urologists here at UCSF!”
