Alan Shindel, MD, MAS Associate Professor, Male Reproductive Health, UCSF Department of Urology has accepted a position as Editor-in-Chief for Sexual Medicine, the International Society for Sexual Medicine’s open access journal. This is a position he previously held as inaugural editor-in-chief from 2012-2015.
"I am deeply grateful to the ISSM for granting me the opportunity to resume work as Editor-in-Chief for Sexual Medicine,” says Dr. Shindel. “It is my hope to continue the standard of excellence established by Dr. Kwangsung Park, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, and to increase the profile of this open access journal as a resource for sexual medicine practitioners around the world."
As Editor-in-Chief it is his responsibility is to oversee the operations of the journal and to ensure that the science presented is of the highest possible quality. The specific roles include selecting and supervising the actions of a team of associate editors, who in turn are responsible for recruiting experts to critically analyze manuscripts.
“It will be my goal to broaden the readership of this journal and in so doing provide doctors and mental health experts with the best possible information to improve patient care, explained Dr. Shindel. “The open access model is ideal for this purpose since papers we publish are freely downloadable to anyone anywhere in the world who has an internet connection.”
