Dr. Alan Shindel, professor of clinical urology at UCSF, was announced as the Incoming Chair for the American Urological Association (AUA) Core Curriculum Committee.  Dr. Shindel will assume these duties June 1, 2022. He will become Chair of the Committee as of June 1, 2023.

Conceptualized over a decade ago, the AUA Core Curriculum consists of topic -based modules that cover the breadth of contemporary urologic practice.  These are living documents, updated annually, that serve as a high yield resource for the latest information to inform the care of urologic patients. The AUA Core Curriculum is a leading learning resource for urology resident physicians.  The Core is also frequently utilized by practicing urologists, medical students, and allied health professionals.

Dr. Shindel has served on the Core Curriculum Committee since its inception, most recently as Senior Consultant for Andrology (ie, men’s reproductive health).

“I am privileged and honored to have been granted the opportunity to serve urology learners as Incoming Chair of the Core Curriculum Committee.” Dr. Shindel said.  “My priority will be to continue the standard of excellence established by Dr. Phil Speiss, the outgoing chair.   Items of particular import to me will be maintaining a focus on incorporating the most contemporary data and also considering issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the existing body of urologic literature.  We need to be sure that the studies we quote patients are based on data representative of our patient populations.”
