The UCSF Male Fertility Preservation Program

The UCSF Male Fertility Preservation Program is committed to protecting fertility for boys and adults facing treatment that may affect their ability to become fathers. For boys undergoing bone marrow or stem cell transplantation, testicular tissue banking offers the possibility of fertility in the future. Adult men can bank sperm or in some cases, testicular tissue may be obtained and frozen for later use.

If you or your son has a recent cancer diagnosis or require urgent evaluation, we will evaluate you within 24- 48 hours. Please phone the UCSF Fertility Preservation Program directly at (415) 353-9115 to speak with a member of our team.

Our team of experienced and compassionate health care professionals is focused on providing you with the information you need to make important fertility preservation decisions quickly. The program strives to help all men and boys achieve fatherhood after completing their treatment by combining cutting edge research with innovations in clinical care.

Hallmarks of our comprehensive program include specialized training, compassionate support, individualized quality care, and a research team working closely with the clinical team. We offer a multidisciplinary approach that combines the expertise of board-certified reproductive urologists, reproductive endocrinologists with additional training in fertility preservation for cancer patients, a certified Andrology lab with expertise in tissue banking, specialty-trained nurses, a psychologist, and genetic counselors.

This expertise is coupled with close and seamless collaboration with our patients’ cancer specialists no matter where they reside. We have existing relationships with oncologists throughout the Bay Area who understand the need to move quickly to protect your or your son’s fertility before beginning fertility threatening treatment.
