John E. Nidecker III has agreed to lead a new monthly Prostate Cancer Support Group for the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Nidecker’s focus will be on prostate cancer education, medical treatment options, and dealing with side effects.  The group setting offers a way for patients to find mutual support and encouragement while discussing positive ways of coping with prostate cancer in an environment which is safe to share emotions.

Nidecker, a retired Hewlett-Packard engineer and prostate cancer survivor, will bring his expertise to UCSF garnered from years of leading other groups in the broader Bay Area.  These include Alameda where he was the founder and leader of the Alameda Prostate Cancer Support Group and Santa Rosa as leader of Sonoma County Prostate Cancer Support Group.  Nidecker also serves as a member of the Patient Services Committee at UCSF.

Patients, wives, partners, family members, friends, and caregivers are all welcome.  The group will meet at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center 1600 Divisadero Street, Room H3906 (3rd Floor) on the first Tuesday of every month from 12:00-2:00 pm.

Attendees are encouraged to call ahead to 707-537-6785 but all drop-ins are welcome. The first meeting will be held on August 6, 2013.
