Each year, the American Urological Association (AUA) honors the 
contributions of physician researchers and educators to the field of medicine, the specialty of urology, and the AUA.
Thomas Chi, MD, Associate Professor UCSF Urology has been named the AUA 2020 recipient of The Gold Cystoscope Award for his “outstanding research into the cause of urolithiasis and innovations in surgical techniques for kidney stone removal.”
This Award was first presented in 1977 and is given annually to a urologist distinguished by outstanding contributions to the profession within ten years of completing residency training.
The presentation of this honor will be held in conjunction with the AUA Annual meeting in Washington DC in May. In addition to the distinction, the award also includes an honorarium and an actual gold-plated cystoscope.
"The Gold Cystoscope Award is one of the most prestigious awards in our field,” says UCSF Urology Chair, Peter Carroll, MD, MPH. “This achievement reflects Tom's dedication to research innovation, compassionate patient care and leadership in our field. The honor is well-deserved. He joins Matt Cooperberg and Tom Lue as UCSF faculty who have previously won this award."
