Ben Breyer, MD, MAS has been named Residency Program Director and Associate Chair of Education for the Department of Urology. Dr. Breyer has previously served as Associate Program Director and has continued to serve as an educational leader in the department. Nationally, he is recognized as an educational thought leader having served as a Program Chair of the Society of Academic Urology and, more recently, serving on the American Board of Urology Examination Committee.
Dr. Breyer has a long history of mentoring. He has helped scores of residents and student publish papers over the years. In 2016 he won the Training in Clinical Research Program Teaching Award. And, also in 2016, he won the Peter Carroll Mentorship award from the Urology residents.
“He is a natural leader who is well experienced in curriculum development, educational leadership, learner assessment, advising, mentoring, and teaching” Says Raj Pruthi, MD, MHA, FACS, Professor, Department of Urology. “He is committed to the learner experience and to resident well-being, and to creating a diverse, empathetic and constructive environment. Dr. Breyer's selection will ensure that UCSF Urology to continue to attract the best and brightest medical students in the country, and to train the future leaders in the field of urology and advance healthcare worldwide.”
Dr. Breyer will take over as Program Director from Alan Shindel, MD, MAS who served as interim program director. Dr. Shindel has been named Associate Residency Program Director for the department.
