The UCSF Department of Urology is pleased to announce Sima P. Porten MD, MPH as the newly appointed Program Director for the Urologic Oncology Fellowship Program. She succeeds Maxwell V. Meng, MD who served as the Program Director of the program for over 15 years. Dr. Meng will remain with the program as the Associate Program Director. He states, “I look forward to working with Sima on continually improving our fellowship program and helping train the next generation of leaders in urologic oncology.”

Sima P. Porten MD currently serves as an Associate Professor of Urology and is part of the multidisciplinary urologic oncology team of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. She received her undergraduate, master’s, and medical degrees at Northwestern University. She completed her urology residency at University of California San Francisco and completed her urologic oncology fellowship at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Porten has been actively involved with the Urologic Oncology Fellowship Program and was also a member of the SUO fellowship committee.
The Urologic Oncology Fellowship program at UCSF was recently re-accredited by the Society of Urologic Oncology for five more years. It is a two-year fellowship program (one year research; one year clinical) that offers multidisciplinary training in all aspects of urologic oncology.
