The UCSF Department of Urology welcomed Daniel W. Lin, MD, Chair of Urology at the University of Washington and Director of the Institute for Prostate Cancer at UW Medicine, as the 2025-2026 Emil A. Tanagho Visiting Professor. During Grand Rounds, Dr. Lin delivered a presentation titled “Prostate Cancer Screening and Genetic Testing: Who, When, How and Why?” highlighting advances in prostate cancer detection, risk stratification and precision medicine.
The annual event also featured the UCSF Urology Trainee Research Symposium, where residents and fellows presented research spanning urologic oncology, andrology, endourology, reconstructive urology, pediatric urology, and health services research. Brian Dick, MD (R5), received first place honors for his presentation, “What’s the Future of Stone Management? Structure-Based Drug Discovery for Calcium Stones.” Grace Lee, MD (R4), earned second place, and Walter Hsiang, MD (R5), received third place recognition.
The celebration concluded with the department’s annual Graduation Celebration Dinner, recognizing graduating residents and fellows and honoring faculty, staff and trainees for their outstanding contributions to education, mentorship, research, and patient care. Among the award recipients were Sima Porten, MD, MPH, who received the Peter R. Carroll Mentorship Award, and Brian Dick, MD, who received the Tom Lue Resident Research Award.
The department also celebrated its graduating trainees, including chief residents Micha YZ Cheng, MD, MPH, Jorge Mena, MD, and Kevin Shee, MD, PhD, as well as fellows John Myrga, MD, Brendan Raizenne, MD, and Alex Jang, MD.
