Biography

Carissa Chu, MD received her undergraduate training at University of California, San Diego, where she earned a degree with Honors in Human Biology.  After graduating, she earned her medical degree and completed her Urology residency at University of California, San Francisco.  She then went onto to complete her fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. In 2023, Dr. Chu was recruited to join the faculty at UCSF.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Chu's clinical interests include all urologic cancers including prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and urethral/penile cancers with experience in both open and minimally invasive approaches.

Research Interests

Her research interests are currently focused on bladder cancer including mechanisms of resistance to the antibody-drug conjugate enfortumab vedotin, the molecular heterogeneity of variant histologic subtypes in bladder cancer, and biomarkers of BCG response in high-risk non-muscle invasive disease.
