Hao Nguyen, MD, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Urology, has been appointed the Richard and Leilani Grinold Endowed Professorship in Urology. The Richard Grinold Fund was established in 2009 by Richard and his wife, Leilani Grinold. Richard Grinold is a well-respected and forward thinker in research innovations and thoughtful leadership in his field. Funds from the professorship will support Nguyen’s research, teaching and service activities in advancing urologic oncology.

Samuel L. Washington, III, MD, MAS, Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology, has been appointed the Goldberg-Benioff Endowed Professorship in Cancer Biology. This endowment is supported by Evan and Cindy Goldberg, and Lynne and Mark Benioff, advocates preeminent to prostate cancer research.

This year Dr. Hampson, Assistant Professor of Urology and Associate Program Director for the UCSF Urology Residency Program has been recognized as Young Urologist of the Year by the American Urological Association.  This award is presented to select AUA Members nominated by their Section who have been in practice for less than 10 years and celebrates their efforts and commitment to advancing the development of fellow early-career urologists.

Recently published in Fertility and Sterility, “Development and validation of a novel mail-in semen analysis system and the correlation between one hour and delayed semen analysis testing.” Dr. Smith, Director of Male Reproductive Health in the Urology Department at UCSF, led a team of clinicians from USC, Yale, and Hackensack Medical Center,in close collaboration with the bioengineering team at Fellow Health (meetfellow.com) to develop and validate a mail-in semen analysis kit.

Innovative surgeon, educator, and scientist; inspiring, passionate and wonderful man, are words used by his colleagues to describe him. His effect on the people around him has been profound. Marshall L. Stoller, M.D., Professor and Vice Chair of Urology at UCSF, and head of the university’s urinary stone division, has been named the 22nd recipient of the Endourological Society’s Karl Storz Lifetime Achievement Award. The award, presented annually since 1999, honors an endourologist whose work and career have had a major impact on the field.
