Biography

Laura Crocitto, MD, MPH knew she wanted to be a physician at a very young age. During her rotations in medical school she realized her passion was for surgery, and, under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Skinner, Urologic Surgeon at USC, she found her niche in Urology. Dr. Crocitto graduated with honors from USC Keck School of Medicine and went to USC for general surgery training and a residency in urology. She completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at USC before spending 21 years at City of Hope in various roles, including Director of Urology Research, Director of Urology Oncology Fellowship Program and Physician Advisor and Director of Enterprise Quality prior to joining UCSF as the VP and CMO of Cancer Services.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Crocitto joined UCSF in 2018 as the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Cancer Services in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSF. As CMO of cancer services, Dr. Crocitto oversees the clinical quality and operations for the cancer center. This includes helping to lead the effort in improving quality and safety measures, better integration of disease site teams, common care delivery practices, aligning quality metrics with performance, and developing strategies for a growing regional network. Dr. Crocitto’s clinical interests focus on bladder, prostate and kidney cancer. Though overall, her passion is to provide care for any patient with a urologic cancer. She is committed to ensuring that patients receive the highest quality, patient centered care while also ensuring an excellent patient experience.

 

Research Interests

Dr. Crocitto’s research has concentrated on the early detection of prostate cancer using molecular markers; molecules in blood or tissues that can indicate abnormality. While at City of Hope, her research team developed a novel test to identify the presence of telomerase in EPS (expressed prostatic secretions) collected from the prostate, which may help to determine the presence of prostate cancer.
