UCSF Urology, once again, ranked as one of the best urology programs in the United States according to the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals survey. Ranking #12 in the nation, #1 in San Francisco and #3 in California.

We are proud to announce that Dr. Thomas Chi has been awarded the 2023 Arthur Smith Award. This award is presented to a urologist who has already achieved distinction through myriad contributions to the field of Endourology in research and teaching within 10 years of completing residency or fellowship.

On July 18, 2023 the University of California announced Robert Krumm, programmer and software engineer in the UCSF Department of Urology, with the 2023 UC Tech Awards Program Design-Golden Award at the UC Tech Conference in Berkeley.

UCSF Urology provider Dr. Christ Butler, Assistant Professor of Urology, will serve as site PI for a  7 million dollar research fund from nonprofit Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), for a study to improve support of patients preparing for gender-affirming surgery and improve surgical outcomes through optimizing the relationship of hospitals and transgender community members. 

Stacey Kenfield, ScD, Helen Diller Family Chair in Population Science for Urologic Cancer, has been promoted to full Professor within the Department of Urology.

Max Bowman, MD, recently appointed Urology Chief Resident at UCSF, has been honored with the 2022-23 GME Award for Excellence and Innovation.

UCSF School of Medicine announced Dr. Butler, Assistant Professor of Urology as one of nine honored as a John A. Watson Faculty Scholar and recipient of the Dean’s Diversity Fund.

Friday, June 9, 2023 marked the Emil A. Tanagho Visiting Professor and Chief Resident Graduation Dinner.
